The Honorable Christopher Bentley Minister Of Labour Dear Mr. Bentley We have a problem and I believe you do also. General Motors St. Catharines has broken laws within your Employment Standards Act. Management has worked us beyond sixty hours in a week, on many occasions. There have been communications with your local Ministry Of Labour office, Jim Bradley and also with your office. The most recent response from your Regional Director Sophie Dennis has displeased and upset our work force at G.M. St. Catharines, which currently, is at over three thousand people. Our request is a simple one. Please Audit the excessive overtime at this facility and if laws have been broken, by abusing us, then please take steps to ensure that it won’t happen again. Mr. Bentley we depend on government officials such as yourself to protect us. Filing a grievance (even if we win) does nothing to deter G.M. from continuing to abuse us. We respectfully request your personal attention in this matter. We would greatly appreciate your intervention in our behalf. Thank you for taking the time to consider our request for your assistance. If you need to have your memory refreshed regarding the letters sent to your departments feel free to visit our web site address provided in the contact information below and visit the letter section. P.S. Mister Bentley's office did contact me and assured me that if the grievance procedure that has been initiated by our union does not get results an arbitrator would be designated. If G.M. is found in contravention of the law they will be dealt with. More to come. | ||||||
