Retirements spur return of 400 Ford workers

WINDSOR (CP) ‑ The Canadian Auto Workers union says hundreds of people laid off from a Ford plant in Windsor are going back to work thanks to retirement incentive programs offered by the automaker. 

Tom Cochois, president of CAW Local 200, said Friday that more than 400 workers laid off earlier this year are returning to the Essex engine plant. The workers were laid off earlier this year because of slow sales of the Freestar minivan. 

"The bulk of (the rehiring was) because of the incentive retirement packages that were offered," Cochois said.
